Date(s) - 05/05/2017 - 07/05/2017
Friday 5th May 2.00 pm to Sunday 7th May 2.00 pm
Held at Kelly House, James Byrne Centre.
Workshop 1 – The Wide Road to Book Publishing
It has never been easier to get a book into print, but easy is not always best. This workshop will give an overview of the various types of publishing available to authors today, together with the pros and cons for each. Deb will also provide encouragement and inspiration to spur you on as you write for His glory.
Workshop 2 – How to be Your Own Best Critic … and love it.
Every manuscript needs professional editing, but you can reduce the cost by first being your own best critic. Deb will use the judging categories from the FaithWriters’ Writing Challenge to help pinpoint common writing problems. Turn off your reader/writer brain, and turn on your inner critic. Your manuscript will love you for it.
These 30-minute appointments provide the opportunity for you to talk to Deb Porter about your manuscript. Bring a sample of your work-in- progress and be prepared to make an elevator pitch (i.e. a brief pitch in which you say what your book is about and why it’s amazing). Deb will look briefly at your sample and indicate ways in which you may be able to improve it. Please bring a copy rather than your original, as Deb may want to jot some comments on it. She is very focused on building Aussie writers, and is always on the lookout for new talent. If something leaps out at her, she will definitely want to talk more with the author at a later date. So please make the most of this opportunity. Publisher appointments will take place on the Friday and Saturday of the retreat and must be booked in advance.
We offer Gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free options. Enter your requirements in the Comments box when registering. Please note food preparation will be done by volunteers, not professional caterers. In some cases of highly specific dietary needs, not covered in these options, it may be valuable to consider self-catering. Please contact retreat coordinators to discuss further.
